3/31/2024 0 Comments Halion library![]() We quickly interrupt your regularly scheduled thread to bring new folks the following messageįor those, mainly new folks, reading this thread but that do not have HALion Sonic SE or have it but haven't figured out out to get GM sounds to use in it, read the following recent thread on that topic. Someone has to create a list of patch names for the program to load.Īttached Files (Click to download or enlarge) (Only available when you are logged in) SampleTank 2(don't know about 3 and 4 and I think Sonic but I'm not sure) lets you create a list of patches that the VST will automatically fetch and load when the VST is loaded. The expectation is first you load the VST into the program and then load the instrument patch(es) into the VST. Sonic and Sampletank allow you you load multiple patches. If you press the GM Patches button on the MIDI Settings window the list of 128 GM patch names will be displayed as seen in the second screen shot. The MIDI Settings window you see below will open. You can see and alter the midi channel assignments by pressing Ctrl + E and then selecting the "Channels" button. Band-in-a-Box expands on that idea by assigning midi channels to instrument tracks. The specifications are what determine a guitar is a guitar, bass is a bass, piano is a piano and so on. These assignments allow standard midi file players to load and use the correct instrument patches during playback. The specifications also state midi channel 10 is reserved for drum and percussion patches as well as assigning what note equals which patch. Those specifications assign instrument or sound effect names to either 128 (GM) or 256 (GM2) patches. The issue is Halion Sonic and SampleTank do not follow the general midi (GM) or general midi 2 patch specifications. However, you should realize that is not how the programs are intended to be used so the results are inconsistent at best. If my assumption is correct then the answer is yes, it is possible. And Falcon kicks its ass in the content department.I'm guessing you want the program's default VST soft synth to be either Halion Sonic or IK Multimedia's SampleTank 2, 3 or 4 is that correct? ![]() ![]() ![]() It is much more comparable to UVI's Falcon. This is ridiculous when they have such obvious, easy paths to make it an instrument that people would happily pay full price for.Īnyway HALion is not in competition with Kontakt. They just have sales where they devalue it by basically giving it away. As they can't figure it out, they are treating it like inMusic treats AIR and SONiVOX. Sadly, I think that Yamaha/Steinberg doesn't know what to do with HALion. Show them how their libraries would be transformed. If they upped their game with more FlexPhrases, they would interest a lot more of the top third-party people to get involved. They are following this path of signing up a handful of instruments, which isn't going to put HALion over the top.Īny instrument, bundled or third-party, is supercharged when you load it into HALion because of the FlexPhrases. They have one of the best cars in the world, but don't want to make gas. ![]() If they would create some flex phrasers for modern musical genres, they would sell a ton of copies of HALion. The Flex Phrases are something that no instrument has except for the hardware Montage and Motif. I love the Flex Phrasers and made a video about them. A reasonable amount of high-quality content would push HALion over the top, because it is such a great sampler and has so much to offer without that.Īlso, they should make more flex phrases, but according to Steinberg's Greg Ondo, that is something that is not going to happen. Don't offer them as paid soundware, there has to be quality inside the bundle that comes when you buy HALION. They have to either hire top people to sample for them or BUY libraries from other companies. If they were seriously interested in breaking through, they would put some things from Iconica and their excellent electric bass library in. The big problem is that most of the instruments that come bundled with HALion are not on the level with what's available with Kontakt. It would take decades of this to make HALion be as successful as, for example, Falcon. But there are only a handful of instruments so far. What is starting to happen is that some companies like Cinematique, Sonuscore, and Soundiron are dribbling out libraries for HALion AND Kontakt. ![]()
